Introducing Heidi Health at Abernethy House Surgery
To improve the quality of our care, we are introducing Heidi Health, an AI-powered medical scribe, to assist with documenting consultations. This technology allows us to focus more on you during appointments by automating note-taking and other administrative tasks.
Heidi Health complies with strict UK data protection standards, including GDPR, ensuring your information is handled securely. For more details about Heidi Health, click here.
Request For GP Letters for PIP
Please note that the surgery will not provide letters for PIP applications (or other benefits). Please see: Quick guide to PIP for health professionals - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).
We will respond to official requests from PIP representatives sent in writing to the surgery. The surgery can provide patients with a brief summary including problem list and medications free of charge.

Welcome to Abernethy House Surgery
At Abernethy House Surgery, we strive to provide the highest possible standard of patient care and treatment. We operate from a purpose-built building and have over 12,000 patients registered with us. Our team includes a full complement of GPs, GP trainees, nurses, Physician Associates, Clinical Pharmacists, and administrative staff.
We are part of West Enfield Collaborative Network, and we work closely with Winchmore Hill Surgery, and the Town Surgery.
Our mission statement:
Our Approach to Patient-Centred Care
At Abernethy House Surgery, we are dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-centred care to our community. We strive to ensure that all patients, regardless of their digital capabilities, receive timely and appropriate care through our total triage system, which includes both eConsults and telephone eConsults. By utilising innovative methods, we can ensure the right care with the right clinician, improving access and reducing the pressure of early morning appointment bookings.
Training and Developing Our Team
We have proudly been a training surgery for over 20 years, and many of our GPs who trained with us have chosen to continue their careers at Abernethy House, contributing to our culture of excellence and continuity of care.
Supporting Vulnerable Populations
Our practice has a strong focus on supporting vulnerable populations, including patients with Learning Disabilities. We ensure that they receive a comprehensive face-to-face check-up annually and are provided with longer appointment times when they are booked with a doctor, ensuring their needs are fully met.
Addressing Social Challenges
We also recognise that many patients face social challenges that impact their health. Our dedicated social prescriber actively works with patients, providing them with guidance and direction to access the most appropriate social support services available.
Caring for the Elderly and Those in Residential Homes
Our commitment to the elderly and those in residential and nursing homes remains a priority, with collaborative efforts alongside Rapid Response nurses and the CHAT team. Together, we work to reduce hospital admissions and provide tailored care plans to meet each individual’s needs.
Continuity of Care
At Abernethy House, continuity of care is central to our ethos. While we recognise that continuity is not always achievable in every situation, we strive to maintain it wherever possible, as we believe that fostering long-term relationships between patients and clinicians leads to better health outcomes and patient satisfaction. We also offer face-to-face appointments for the majority of patients, unless their clinical needs can be met more appropriately through other means.
Our Clinical Team and Supervision
We embrace the contributions of our Physician Associates and Pharmacists, who are integral members of our clinical team. They are trained to take on specific delegated tasks to ensure efficient patient care. Physician Associates see patients only after triage by a senior clinician, ensuring that patients receive the most appropriate and safe care. We are committed to a robust supervision structure for our trainees, Physician Associates, Pharmacists, and nurses, with one GP supervisor allocated each day, fully available to review cases and provide guidance as needed.
Embracing Technology for Better Care
Embracing technology to improve our services, we offer a new call-back phone system to reduce waiting times, extensive use of text messaging for quick communication, and the promotion of the NHS app and electronic prescriptions (EPS) to support environmentally friendly and convenient healthcare solutions. We also encourage our patients to access their healthcare records through the NHS app or by making a Subject Access Request (SAR), empowering them to stay informed and actively participate in their healthcare.
Our Values and Commitment to Quality
We value inclusivity, integrity, and excellence. We ensure that every patient is treated with dignity and respect, and we are committed to continuous improvement through open communication and patient feedback. By working together with patients, carers, and community partners, we aim to create a supportive environment that promotes well-being, prevents illness, and provides comprehensive, compassionate healthcare for all.
